Christmas is nigh! And 2012 is already in sight!
In the spirit of these days I have added quite a few of new plants onto the website. And from now until the end of 2011, there is a
5% reduction
applicable to anything on the website. At the moment of checkout just enter the coupon END2011 and the website will take care of the rest.
In relation to the switch of my internet provider, I managed to do it myself 2 days in advance. I’m quite sure it went unobserved as the downtime was limited to less than 1 hour last Wednesday.
Wrapping up for now, look-up on the website the new plants with their [very] low prices. The weather here still allows me to send parcels (temperatures above 0°C) so perhaps you find a nice Christmas/New Year cycad gift!
Before the end of the year I’ll do a retrospective update for the entire year that’s about to end.

Notice follow-up
As always (...) things did not go exactly as expected. Whilst the technician arrived today, just before starting to install the new stuff he found out that the switch was not yet enabled for my address. This means that he and I just wasted 1 hour of time today.
However, somewhat totally independant, I have observed that my internet provider changed my IP address. As a result, for the better part of today the website would have been unaccessible. I managed to update the name servers so at this moment things should be back to normal.
The bad side of the above is that there will be another day (after 16 December) when the actual providers switch still is to happen... Practically, there will be another day when the website will be unavailable for a few hours. I'll post another notice here.
The good part is that the parcels that were due to be shipped tomorrow were shipped today. And I made an overall round to all plants. Surprisingly, a lot of plants push new leaves, despite of the fact that I reduced their water table. E. aemulans, villosus, pterogonus, munchii, ghelinckii, friderici-guilielmii, lanatus, humilis, ferox, eugene-maraisii, nubimontanus and a few others seem to not yet realize it's winter in this country. About a third of the plants stay at an a average of 21°C, a third at an average of 18°C and last third somewhere around 15°C. Humidity is medium. The current water table calls for about 100 ml per 2 litre potting mix.
The outside temperature oscilates around 7°C with the usual Dutch rain (and today very strong wind). No snow yet, but as always, I hope for a white Christmas...

Notice
There is another appointment set for 17 December 2011 for switching my internet provider. So as the previous attempt, here's the notice that the web server may be down on that date. As quite a lot of things would need to be reconfigured, I'll do my best to have the website up and running again as of 18 December.

NOTICE
On the 7th I will be switching internet providers. This effectively means that starting 5 PM CET, for at least 24 hours, the website may not be accessible. The mentioned 24 hours include the global DNS propagation after an IP change but does not include any unforeseen situations like "it won't go exactly as planned". I'll have to reconfigure the entire network, as the modem and the router will be changed. This means some extra reboots of various servers, on top of any "normal" downtime.
Under normal circumstances everything should be working normally by Thursday afternoon. Please give me one more grace day to be on the sure side.
The way I look at it, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
All pending and confirmed orders are going on as usual, i.e. they'll be shipped on Thursday.
